LEGO NAMED THE MOST POPULAR TOY IN THE UK

A survey conducted by the British mail-order company Argos shows that LEGO is by far the most popular toy in the UK among adults. Of the 1,000 respondents aged 16 and above, a whopping 56% said LEGO was the toy that had given them the most joy throughout their lives. LEGO being a client of ours, of course this makes us very proud.
And the good news didn’t stop there for LEGO. The company’s V19 Star Wars spaceship ranked number 8 in the top 10 best-selling toys this year. Congrats!

W+K LEADING THE LONDON BIKE CULTURE BOOM

I was in London for a few days recently (taking advantage of Advance’s annual summer break) and I chanced upon the offices of super-cool agency Wieden+Kennedy. I couldn’t resist a little peek through the glass door and was delighted to see a load of bikes parked up just inside the entrance. While London still has a way to go to match Copenhagen’s bike culture, things are definitely gathering pace back in my homeland and it’s good to see that the nice people of W+K are leading the way. In case any of our non-Danish readers are interested, here’s a little peek at what it’s like to bike in Copenhagen:

THE MAKING OF THE STOP-SIGN CAMPAIGN

I fell over this nice treat over at Faris’ blog, and I thought I’d share it with you. It is in the same category as the ‘Break up’ posted last year – illustrating the changes the advertiser/consumer relationship is undergoing these years. This, however, illustrates the nightmare of every client/agency relationship. Getting the brief from the client trying to incorporate every bits and pieces ind the solution. Let this be a kind reminder to us all as to why we take such an effort in discussing, challenging and guiding our clients into better solutions. Enjoy!

“DOGME” VIDEO FROM RADIOHEAD

Radiohead is known for pushing the boundaries and doing things differently, remember the pay-what-you-think-its-worth pricing strategy for the download of their latest album? Their latest act has been to launch the video to ‘House of Cards’ on Google. But of course this isn’t that groundbreaking – the thing is that it’s not just any old-fashioned video recording; it’s shot with lasers and scanners, not cameras and lights.
The video, along with widgets and a making-of film, can be viewed here.

THE REMIX OF THE TRUTH

For those of you that are familiar with the American Legacy Foundation campaign ‘The Truth’ you are most likely to agree that this campaign is nothing less than brilliant. For those of you that don’t know it, make sure to get in the know by looking at this or this. But all you really need to know actually, is that ‘The Truth’ is one of the most effective anti-smoking campaigns ever - that should be enough reason to check it out.
Latest news is that the ALF and the agency Arnold have launched a “ReMix” project where the cheerful tunes from the campaign has been handed to nine established DJs, producers and bands.
Visitors can listen to clips of each artist’s song, check out their images and bios, download the full ten-song CD for free (for a limited time only). Along with the official ReMix homepage, truth-branded profiles on MySpace and Facebook will keep the songs in rotation, as will other online music channels like Pandora, Imeem, iLike and Spin.com. At the end of July, iTunes, Napster, eMusic and other digital distro sites will offer the songs for download as well. As for additional content, behind-the scenes videos and podcasts will roll out every two weeks through the first week of October.

Just a quick note to tell you that Advance will be closed for two weeks as of July 14 and so will this blog – well, mostly. . . I’ll be here to keep the strategic wheels running, so maybe I’ll drop a post now and then. But for all of you going away here’s a 3-minute treat. It has absolutely nothing to do with advertising, planning or media, but it’s fun. Have a wonderful summer everyone. Remember to stay hydrated! Thanks to Jesper Isholm for the link!

TRANSMEDIA PLANNING

I’ve been reading Convergence Culture by Henry Jenkins. It’s brilliant – lots of great ideas to steal and required reading for anyone with an interest in how the relationship between consumers and media is changing. Over at Faris’ blog (the Digital Ninja from Naked Communications… talk about a cool job title eh?) I found a great presentation talking about this subject. A quick must-read for anyone interested in planning and communications in the new media reality.

IT’S A DIFFICULT JOB BUT SOMEONE’S GOT TO DO IT

Several months of hard work for our Arla team came to an end last week with the shoot of a TVC for an exciting new product the company is launching. The two-day shoot ran really smoothly and the highlight was a lovely morning on the beach at Amager. Here’s a few pics:
Our ‘family’ act out a scene on the pier.
Our AD Gavin and the director of photography talk ‘depth of field’.
The team discuss a shot. From left to right is Account Manager Annette, AD Gavin, and copywriter Henrik.
Annette takes a well-earned break.
A productive day ends with Henrik helpfully fertilizing the nearby organic gardens.

Here is how to use social media effectively, and here is how not to get a girl to go out with you.
Sorry for the lack of posts recently but things have been getting a bit hectic here as we try and wrap some big projects up before a well-earned summer break.
